Journal Club
Presented by Monica Boulton and facilitated by Anna Gregorowski.
You are invited to attend our virtual Journal Club. Using papers on low dose naltrexone (LDN), Monica Bolton plans to present a practical and enjoyable critique of a few research papers, accessible and relevant to all clinicians, however research focused you may be, or not. We hope by sharing the experience of attending journal club, attendees can develop their critical appraisal skills, a deeper understanding of how to interpret research and further understanding of what makes a good quality study in ME/CFS and long COVID. Our shared discussion will centre on the relevance and benefit of research findings and how patients may be impacted as a result.
Article to be reviewed:
Bonilla, H., Tian, L., Marconi, V.C., Shafer, R., McComsey, G.A., Miglis, M., Yang, P., Bonilla, A., Eggert, L. and Geng, L.N., 2023. Low-dose Naltrexone use for the management of post-acute sequelae of COVID-19. International immunopharmacology, 124, p.110966.
We will explore elements such as the aim of the research, ethics, recruitment, diagnostic inclusion and exclusion criteria, data collection and analysis and results. We ask that attendees read the article before we meet. Please bring your thoughts on the above. Monica will also be comparing and contrasting a case studies paper and systematic review and signposting to other relevant papers on LDN and how this research could impact practice both ME/CFS and long COVID.
